The Abaixo or do Agro mills and the Xaime, Arriba or Casais mill were restored by an Employment Workshop in two thousand eight. They not only restored the mills, but also took care of the environmental regeneration of the surroundings, Conditioning the path along the river bank and a picnic area where we can see quite a variety of vegetation.
We are on the banks of the Coroño River, one of the four rivers that run through the lands of the Boiro, Coroño, Brea, Beluso and Breiro municipalities.
On the banks of these four rivers, there are more than one hundred twenty cataloged mills, fifty-two of which are located on this same river, the Coroño.
Before us we have two of those fifty-two mills, the Molino de Arriba or de Xaime or de Casais and the Molino de Abaixo or do Agro
The function of the mills was to grind the corn with which the bread would later be made.
It was from one thousand four hundred ninety-two with the discovery of America, when the mills began to grind corn, since previously what was ground in them was "millet".
Windmills lived their golden age during the Middle Ages, as they were booming after that, which led to the construction of a large number of them, many of which are still standing today. This golden age of the mills lasted until the beginning of the twentyth century.
But with everything, the Mills were not always as you see them now. Throughout history these have evolved in terms of their shape, mechanism and operation.
